I had the pleasure of attending the launch event for The Social Work Way app at The Gold Works in Ebbw Vale on 01 October 2024. The launch co-incided with the opening of this brand new co-working space, a beautiful gold coloured building just on the outskirts of Ebbw Vale, so there was quite an air of excitement around the place.
This new app has the potential to redefine how social workers approach their daily practice. It is thoughtfully designed and tailored specifically for social work professionals.
During the event, Matthew Davies (Founder of The Social Work Way) highlighted the many unique features that cater to the specific needs of the field. In social work, where time is often in short supply and the challenges are complex, efficiency is crucial. The app streamlines administrative tasks that can often bog down social workers, giving them more time to focus on what truly matters, engaging with clients and delivering impactful services.
It’s easy to see how this will reduce the burden of paperwork, allowing practitioners more time back in their day. As someone who values the relationship-building aspect of all work, this is a big win for the sector.
One of the core messages from today’s event was about bridging the gap between technology and social work, something Practice Solutions have always been passionate about (see our Innovation Hours and AI and digital transformation work). We recognise that there can sometimes be a disconnect between the human-centred nature of social work and the impersonal feel of technology, but The Social Work Way has managed to strike the right balance. The app’s design keeps the focus firmly on human connection while using technology to enhance the work that social workers do every day.
Matthew will be attending the National Social Care Conference later in October, and delivering a workshop to delegates to showcase the app. If you’re attending, please come along and say hello, I’m sure he’d be happy to answer your questions. If you haven’t booked your tickets yet, time is running out and don’t forget to check out the special evening event: Connect: Under the Dome.
For anyone in the field of social work, this app is well worth exploring. The future of social work is here, and it’s digital, efficient, and more human than ever.
